Multicultural Teams

We design and deliver our own intercultural skills programs for teams and managers working in international business environments. The focus is practical: we help people work better across cultures by addressing what most often drives friction - or performance - in global collaboration. That includes differences in decision-making and communication styles, expectations around hierarchy and speed, and the “invisible” cultural assumptions that influence daily operations, relationships, and results.

How we work

We deliver projects across 10 countries and in multiple languages. Alongside our own e-learning, we also create tailored e-learning solutions for organizations. Our approach combines proven cross-cultural collaboration frameworks, research (including Erin Meyer), diagnostic tools such as GlobeSmart®, and experiential methods -games and simulations (e.g., CultuRallye) - that turn insight into day-to-day habits. The result is always adapted to your context and the reality of your teams.

Topics, areas, and tools include:

Leading diverse and globally distributed teams

Cross-cultural collaboration and communication strategies

GlobeSmart® and The Culture Map - analysing, diagnosing, and mapping cultural differences

Diversity & Inclusion - building inclusive work environments

Cultural awareness - strengthening cultural awareness in international organizations

Train the Intercultural Trainer - developing internal experts and intercultural ambassadors

Our programs in practice

What happens when a team finally sees that the problem is not “difficult people,” but different cultural patterns - and understands how those patterns shape communication, decisions, and collaboration?

What changes when leaders can read behaviours across cultures more accurately and adjust their leadership style to strengthen alignment, decision-making, and engagement in a global team?

And what shifts in an organization when internal intercultural ambassadors appear - people who can support leaders and teams in navigating differences, reducing tension, and building a more inclusive way of working?

We work based on our own original programs and adapt them to the client's specific needs. Below is an example of how we run our multicultural teams work in practice.

Case example: Breaking Barriers - Train the Intercultural Trainer

How we built an internal community of trainers and intercultural ambassadors

In one of our programs, we partnered with a global organization that has invested strategically in diversity, inclusion, and collaboration capabilities for years. Its teams operate across Europe, Asia, and the Americas - which means navigating different communication styles, decision-making approaches, and relationship norms every single day.

The organization needed a group of internal trainers who could do more than explain cultural differences. They needed people who could facilitate dialogue, help teams work through tension, and support leaders in building conscious, inclusive collaboration.

That’s the challenge they brought to us.

We designed Breaking Barriers - Train the Intercultural Trainer, a comprehensive program to build an internal community of trainers and ambassadors for intercultural competence. 60 participants from different business units and regions took part. The journey included an e-learning module, onsite workshops in four European locations, dedicated trainer materials, and a series of implementation sessions with individual feedback - so participants developed real training and facilitation capability.

Here’s what the journey looked like:

01

Foundations of cross-cultural collaboration

Participants started with our online course to build a shared baseline in:

  • key intercultural concepts,

  • the most relevant differences in work styles, communication, and decision-making,

  • using GlobeSmart® as a foundation for diagnosing collaboration.

This created a strong, consistent starting point for the more advanced work that followed.

03

Amsterdam • Berlin • Paris • Barcelona

During intensive, hands-on workshops, participants built the skills needed to run high-quality intercultural sessions, including:

  • facilitating conversations about cultural differences,

  • using GlobeSmart® to diagnose cross-cultural collaboration,

  • leading engaging cultural awareness sessions for global teams,

  • handling group challenges and moderating dialogue when differences create tension.

The workshops combined theory, cultural insight, behaviour modelling, and work on real cases from the organization.

Strengthening trainer capability

Two-day onsite workshops

Practice and self-study materials

After the workshops, participants worked in small groups to practice delivering sessions, exchange observations, and build confidence with the tools.

They also received a professional trainer toolkit:

  • ready-to-use agendas and session scripts,

  • interactive exercises and slides,

  • facilitation guidelines and practical tips for moderating dialogue,

  • case studies reflecting the organization’s global reality.

This made it easier for them to run internal sessions effectively across their teams and regions.

Implementation & feedback sessions

Session delivery practice + individual feedback

To close the program, participants delivered parts of their own cultural awareness sessions and received feedback from Blackbird experts. They also practiced reading cross-cultural dynamics, managing difficult interactions, and giving feedback to fellow trainers.

This stage helped them clearly see their progress - from early recordings to confident, independently delivered mini-workshops.

Effect?

Participants completed the program as:

  • capable internal cultural awareness trainers,

  • ambassadors for D&I and the GlobeSmart® tool,

  • practitioners who strengthen global collaboration, reduce tension caused by cultural differences, and support leaders in building high-performing multicultural teams.

The organization gained a consistent, scalable, and mature way to build intercultural competence - based on internal experts who can support teams across diverse international structures.

Read the opinion of one of the participants of our program:

This program brought people together from across the organization and created a real learning community where different perspectives meet. Blackbird’s trainers adapted the content to our needs and responded flexibly to feedback. Every session was inspiring and genuinely supported the development of an inclusive culture. The ‘Breaking Barriers - Train the Trainer’ approach has been a true transformation - we gained knowledge and tools that strengthen teams and raise cultural awareness. Thank you, Blackbird!
